Rider Information

Overnight Accommodations

At the end of the first days ride, Team Geokinetics will stay overnight at St. James’ Espiscopal Church in La Grange, Texas.  We found that this worked very well for the team last year and was an improvement over the first year we rode in 2006 where we stayed over night at a camp grounds in tents and RV’s.  The Church has space for us to offer massages, to have dinner, relax and sleep, all in the comfort of air-conditioning which we usually need in the Texas April warmth.

St. James’ is an easy coast downhill from the La Grange Fairgrounds where the tour ends on the first day.  Once you arrive at the Church, you will find that there are plentiful hot showers, massages, food, beer, wine, comfort and good company.  We can’t guarantee you will get a good nights sleep, but we will try and give you every comfort so that you can try (this year we will also provide ear plugs in the overnight rider goodie bags!).  If you have any special requirements or requests get in touch with either the Team Manager or our Team Captain

Rider Packets

More information will follow so please check back regularly.  We will arrange to pick up your rider packets for you but you will need to provide us with signed waiver forms which you will be able to download soon.  The schedule for these pick-up’s will be available to us later in the Spring.

Transportation

We have not decided yet whether we are going to ride from either of the Stadium starts or join the ride like we did last year.  As we have moved offices now and no longer have warehouse facilities close to the ride route, we will have to think of something else.  You need not worry about transportation to the start-point, that will be arranged for you and communicated.  We will also take care of your transportation needs back from Austin to Houston on Sunday evening.  More details will follow so please check back.  Please do not worry though, we will take good care of you and your bike.  If you know that you do not need transportation back from Austin, please let the Team Manager know.

Team Jerseys

Each rider will receive two Team Geokinetics 2008 design cycling jerseys.  We have placed the order early this year and hope that they might arrive in time for you to use them on some training rides.  We have ordered club cut.  Please bring plain black cycling shorts, shoes, gloves and helmet with you, we do not provide these.  If you need help with equipment prior to your arrival, please do hesitate to ask.  There are excellent cyling shops here in Houston or if you prefer to shop online you could have your shipment sent to the 1500 CityWest, Suite 800 address if that would help.

Wise About Safety

Our goal is for everyone to have a safe ride.  Your bike needs to be safe and you need to know how to ride safely with 12,999 other cyclists on the Texas highways and byways.  ALL team members are required to take the BP MS 150 safety quiz and ALL bikes will need to have inspection stickers.  This means that you should plan on arriving in Houston at least 3 days prior to the ride so that we can arrange for your bike to pass this inspection at our local bike store (Bicycle World & Fitness at 851 Dairy Ashford).  If you are unsure, please contact the Team Manager or our Team Captain
