14th June, 2009 Geokinetics Crew #872 held a Memorial at Sea for our friend and workmate, Soluwellington Vieira de Sa.
Soluwellington was tragically taken from us on 1st June, 2009 when Air France Flight No. AF447 crashed into the Sea off the coast of Brasil, while he was on the way back to the crew.
The outpouring of grief among all the nationalities on Crew #872 showed how highly Soluwel was regarded, not just as a co-worker but as a friend too. Our hearts go out to Soluwel’s family in Brazil.
Soluwel worked in Egypt over the last five years on 14 different projects since Geokinetics (Grant's) first project in Egypt in 2005. Soluwel made many friends who are either still on the crew or have moved to other crews and companies internationally. He was highly regarded by all members of 872 and he got along well with everyone. He was willing to work anywhere and always loved speaking of home and his family at the end of the day, many of us dreamt of having the life of Soluwel!
A speech was given in English and Arabic over the ship’s radio then flowers tossed into the sea. Finally, nine long blasts of the Geokinetics Mermaid Discovery vessel horn were blasted and the crew began clapping to remember our good friend.
Crew #872 has just started a new job and know they have a great friend and seaman watching over them now. RIP Soluwel.
